Weekly CRICKET Review - XCiii | 2025 IPL Update
Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,
You already know I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what is happening within the Cricket community. It's the 92nd edition now. After the conclusion of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, India became the champions. Guess what's going on now! It's the IPL season!
In the last few weeks, I shared a small overview about 2025 IPL, and a small update of the tournament. Currently, it's going on with huge excitement. So, let's see what is happening there.
First of all, I worry about this war between India and Pakistan, which has affected Cricket as well. Both PSL and IPL matches were abandoned, and I hope this unrest between the two neighbours will end soon.
Out of 74 matches, 58 have already been concluded, with all the teams having played at least 11 games. Things have become very unpredictable right now.
Well, as you can see, the top four is still the same from last week, but slight change in order. After the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans, the two teams have switched places. As I said over and over, GT is proving something here. The new team is proving as a team and also the individuals.
RCB and Panjab are also in their full form, regularly winning the last few matches as well. Anyway, the playoff chances are still open for 7 teams with just 12 matches remaining in the group stage.
On the other hand, CSK, SRH, and RR have already been eliminated with poor performances, and just three wins for each.
- Suryakumar Yadav from MI is still holding the orange cap. The underrated batter, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Butler, are in the top 05. All these are from the top 04 teams, and three of them are from the Gujarat Titans.
Ishan Kishan, Priyansh Arya, Abhishek Sharma, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi are the only centurians so far.
Prasidh Krishna of GT is the leading wicket-taker with 20 wickets so far. Noor Ahmad, Trent Boult, Josh Hazlewood, and Varun Chakaravarthy are the top 05, and Starc and Pandya managed to bag fifers.
While most of those matches were one-sided, we had a lot of suspense in a few. I'll share some of these matches.
The 56th match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans was one for the ages. MI started the batting and lost the openers early. GT ballers were amazing. Anyway, Will Jacks, SKY and Bosch build the innings and put in a competitive total of 115/8.
In the reply, Boult got Sudharsan early. Boult and Bumrah were unplayable at the start, and GT could just score 29/1 in the powerplay. And time to time, drizzle and rain interrupted the play. In the first half of the chase, GT was way behind DLS par score. The match swung between both teams with cameos from Butler, Rutherford, and balling efforts from Bumrah and Boult.
They needed 31 off the last three and, with the interruption from rain, the revised target for GT was 147 in 19 overs. One over missed, and 15 needed off the last over off Chahar. With boundaries, no balls, and a missed run-out chance in the last ball, GT pulled off a thriller in the last ball. They won the match by 3 wickets.
- The 53rd match between Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals was another close game. KKR started batting, and 206/4. Gurbaz and Raghuvanshi chipped in well, but with a 25-ball fitty from Russel and a cameo from Rinku, they ended well.
RR lost one opener early, Jaiswal once again did well, but it was Parag who anchored the inning. He scored 95 runs from 45 balls with 8 sixes. But there was a little contribution from the middle order. But carried it with the help of Hetmyer. After his wicket, 22 were needed off the last over. Shubham Dubey tried his best, scoring just 20 runs, and KKR won by just 1 run.
So, things are getting heated. And comment on your predictions for the next match!
